S.C.A.B (Slipper Clutch Adjustment Button) Review by Jerry Matoon

I just got home from the Monster Jam race in Bradenville, PA at RC Alley Raceway;Jumped on the computer to check out RCMT and I had a message asking me if I would like to test a part for the Traxxas Slash. The part is an RPM gear cover modified to have a Rogue Element Slipper Clutch Adjuster Button (S.C.A.B.) built in. You can check out the web site at: www.rogueelementcomponents.com

Installation went as planned. After checking out the web site it states that certain models in the Traxxas line may need to modify wheelie bars; which is pretty much the same as the rear bumper on the Slash. It also states that the motor shaft may need to be ground down in order to fit under the gear cover. Well I forgot to pre fit the gear cover before I took my VXL powered Slash to the local park; bad idea!! If you have never adjusted the slipper from stock; make sure you loosen up the nut and tighten it back up. Mine was on there pretty snug and had a heck of a time loosening it with a nut driver. To install all that was required was to take the screw out of the bumper mount on the gear side of the transmission and slip off the bumper mount from the chassis. The RPM cover goes right in and tightens right down. slide the bumper mount back on the chassis; replace the screw in the bumper mount and you are ready to sling some dirt!

I was surprised that this setup is as easy to work with the body on! my hand fits right in there without taking a wheel or the body off for adjustment.

I ran the truck at a local park in the access road which is gravel covered; the baseball diamond; and some light grass running.

I must admit that I was surprised at how easy the S.C.A.B (Slipper Clutch Adjusting Button) was to use. Just push it in to engage the center of the adjuster onto the slipper nut. Turn the button to loosen or tighten the slipper; release the button and you are back on your way! This system is a wonderful idea and makes you wonder why it wasn't thought of 20 years ago!

I can see this coming in handy for tire changes, transmission rebuilds; motor or ESC changes; even going to higher power batteries at a race.,,,,,Not to mention changing where you are bashing you truck for the day! With the RPM cover you are less likely to have the external gears get chewed up with debris as the original cover is opened around the out drives; And the spring loaded adjuster button makes clutch control a snap! No more pulling your truck off the track and back to the pits; no more carrying all those tools for tire removal and clutch adjustment. Just push in; turn; release and you are back in the race.
